The surgical team at Care Medical Hospitals successfully performed a delicate thyroidectomy on a man in his forties who was suffering from thyroid cancer accompanied by hyperthyroidism. The procedure, led by Dr. Mahfouz Al-Asali, Consultant in General Surgery, was considered highly complex due to the risk of thyroid storm — a serious complication that could lead to severe tachycardia or sudden heart failure.

The patient had suffered for three years from chronic symptoms such as weight loss, excessive sweating, hand tremors, and irregular heartbeat, with no significant improvement from medication. As a result, surgical intervention became the most effective option to alleviate his condition. Thanks to the medical team’s expertise and advanced technologies, the operation was completed in 80 minutes without any complications. The patient was discharged in good health just three days after surgery.

In his statement, Dr. Mahfouz explained that the coexistence of thyroid cancer and hyperthyroidism is a rare condition that presents significant diagnostic and surgical challenges. He noted that the team faced two major risks during the procedure: the potential onset of a thyroid storm during surgery, and the need to minimize the duration of the operation due to the thyroid gland’s vascular nature, which poses a high risk of bleeding.

This successful outcome highlights Care Medical Hospitals’ capability to manage rare and complex cases with high efficiency and reflects the hospital’s commitment to providing advanced, precision-driven healthcare. It reinforces patient confidence and positions the hospital among the leading centers in specialized surgery
